    Dear BT,

did you solve the problem. I have to do same thing but I don't know how to do it. Dear Peter can you exlain the steps more detailed, please ?

  • Elevation as temporal variable

    Dear all,

I will use FEFLOW to create 3D model for dewatering an open pit in a mine area. I will simulate the model for the mine life. As you know, pit depth and mine area always change, so how can define this elevation change for the mine life.  Can I define elevation as a temporal variation? I mean, I have weekly elevation contour belong to mine area. How can I define this weekly change to the model ?

    Thank you

  • local to global coordinate

    Hi ,

I am modeling 2D unsaturated model. My model calculated pressure quite high and I couldn't see the water table. I read from the forum, the reason could be the difference between local and global coordinate difference. My extend in y direction is between 850-1440 meters, I shift the local coordinate to y=0 from the window shown in figure. Is this all for the transformation, I mean is there any steps should I perform for the transformation??
The problem is that when I re-run the model it gives a huge error amount, what can be reason. I think I have to do something with the transformation but I don't know what. In the forum I saw a link related with the transformation but it is broken. Please help me.
  • Re: relative conductivity-saturation

thanks a lot for the answer. As far as I understand FEFLOW does not derive saturation vs. releative conductivity, I have to define myself.

Using discrete elements, the fractures will be 'between' the layers (if you think about horizontal fractures). They will be reduced in the model to 2D. FEFLOW does not handle a double porosity approach, where the same layer has different properties for the fracture and matrix parts.

    Dear Peter,

I try to model karstic area with FEFLOW. You allready wrote down that FEFLOW does not handle double porosity. I just wonder that if I enter the tabular data  for unsaturated media to represent double porosity, would't the results represent double porosed media. If I enter data in the attachment and use the spline model for unsaturated flow, does the results represent double porosed media ? Or do I have to define discrete elements for the karstic media everytime ?
  • Re: relative conductivity-saturation

Thanks a lot for the answer. I know that I can use Van genuchten method in FeFlow, what I ask is that what should I do if I have measured data. As far as I understand I can use spline models for this. The problem is I only have capillary pressure and saturation data. Does FeFlow estimate capillary pressure vs. relative conductiviy curve from the capillary pressure vs. saturation graph and saturated hydraulic conductivity ?
  • relative conductivity-saturation

    Hi everyone,

In FeFlow, I just started to model 2D vertical model. I have to model unsaturated flow. I have tabular data for saturation and capillary pressure head, so I will use spline approximation. The problem is I don't have any relative conductivity-saturation data. Before the FeFlow, I used another software which automatically estimates matric suction and hydraulic conductivity curve from  saturation and capillary pressure head. It uses Van-Genuchten and Fredlund-Xing methods to draw the unsaturated hydraulic curve from soil water content curve. Does FeFlow do such thing ? If not can you help me how I can calculate relative conductivity and saturation data.
  • Re: problem with mesh generator

thanks for the reply. I know the part you attached. What i see in the manuel is that I can enter total element number like in the figure. Is this changed ? And as far as i understand i need to assign mesh size differently for polygons and lines. Polygon size target means element size in the polygons, right ? However, when i change polygon target size from 5 meters to 20 meters there is no change in total element numbers, how is that possible ? And finally, when i change the mesh size or mesh type, all the selection (like boundaries or polygons that represents the certain formation) that I have made is cancelled, right ? Is it possible to lock these selections even the mesh size changes ?

  • problem with mesh generator

Hi, I am quite new at FEFLOW. I have some problems with generating mesh. I am using FEFLOW 7 and total element drop-down part is missing. How can I enter total element number ? Also I didn't see the target element size part. There is polygon target size I think it is not the same with target element size. Also when I chose polygons seperately and change the proposed elements there isn't any change at the number of elements.
