• Re: Saltwater !!

Hi, I am intrigued. Variable BC for Salt water Head - Plugin is facilitating the use of timeseries to give saltwater boundary if my understanding is correct. Please let me know if my understanding is wrong.
  • Definitions of unsaturated flow porosity(Richards eqn),Mass transport porosity

I am running a 2D vertical cross-section model with Richards equation for flow and mass transport for 2 species. There are three porosities: 1. Unsaturated flow porosity, which I assume is Specific Yield 2. For Mass transport 1 there is a porosity option and 3. for For Mass transport 1 there is another porosity option.

How each species can have different porosities? Is it physically possible?
  • Governing equations

    Hi,

I need to non-dimensionalize the salt water intrusion problem for a confined aquifer. Could you please
provide me the governing equation used in density dependent flow  benchmark Henry problem example  .fem files?

The governing equations given in the book "FEFLOW:Finite Element Modeling of Flow, Mass and Heat Transport in Porous and Fractured Media" by Diersch is confusing.

  • 3D sloped aquifer with multilayer well

    Hi,

I am modelling a simple 3D geometry with slope. I can develop the 3D mesh in two ways

    i) If I draw the initial 2D slice with slope and develop 3D layer configuration in transverse(horizontal) direction I cannot model multilayer well. I can fix my gravity in negative y direction. But, if I select the top slice and copy the selection to all layers, it selects nodes in transverse horizontal direction instead of nodes in vertical direction.
ii) I can have my 2D slice as rectangle and develop 3D layer such that gravity is in negative z direction. After that I can import the elevation for all slice to create slope. But it is very tedious process.

Is there any easier method to develop 3D mesh in FEFLOW or can I model 3D model using some other software like solid works and importing it to FEFLOW. Kindly, advise me.

    Thanks,
    Selva

  • Re: Saltwater intrusion

Thank you! Just seen the white paper for hydraulic head boundary in density-dependent flow.

    I have one more question:

How to define tidal boundary condition? Do I need to define different time series for each node of the seaside boundry since with varying time tidal water level might go below the nodes in inter tidal zone?

From previous post I have seen there is a plug-in for varying saltwater head.

    http://forum.mikepoweredbydhi.com/index.php/topic,1075.0.html

Do I need to get the plug-in below or FEFLOW 6.2 included the update for the same?

    Thank you,
    Selva
  • Re: Saltwater intrusion

    Peter,

Whether the seaside boundary condition for an confined aquifer should be in pressure form or head*1.025. And what should be the initial head inside if I want to my initial head to be MSL. In Henry problem why the seaside hydraulic boundary is given a linearly increasing function to 0.025. I could not understand how it represents the hydrostatic head.

    Thanks,
    Selva.
  • Saltwater intrusion

    Hi,

I am new to FEFLOW and trying to setup saltwater intrusion for variable density model with simple 2D vertical flow rectangular aquifer. I have checked out "invoke Boussinesq's approximation" box and defined density ratio as 1.025. Boundary conditions are specific head and specific concentration boundaries. However, with longitudinal dispersivity 10 m and hydraulic conductivity 44.2 m/day I cannot see any intrusion. Do I need to setup any other parameters? Please help me if there is any tutorial for this.

    Thank you,
    Selva
