Description

MIKE+ was introduced in 2019 as the successor to MIKE URBAN, MIKE HYDRO River and MIKE FLOOD. The final release of MIKE URBAN was the 2020 Update 1 version.

This article is intended for existing MIKE URBAN users and addresses installation issues encountered during the migration to MIKE+.

To support a smoother transition, this guide outlines the results of in-house tests to verify whether legacy MIKE URBAN models can still be launched using a valid ArcGIS Desktop license—either perpetual or term-based—even after Esri retires ArcMap licenses in 2024.

Disclaimer

MIKE URBAN is no longer supported or maintained, and compatibility with newer operating systems cannot be guaranteed. Running legacy software in modern environments can be complex, and as a result, we cannot ensure reliable performance on all systems. Factors such as your operating system version, hardware configuration, and third-party software, may impact functionality. The information provided in this article is based solely on tests conducted in our internal environment and may not reflect performance on other setups. For continued technical support and long-term reliability, we strongly recommend migrating to the latest version of MIKE+ as soon as possible.

Migration Requirements

Since the ArcGIS Desktop application is embedded in MIKE URBAN (a discontinued product), a valid ArcGIS license must be successfully activated before the MIKE URBAN interface can be opened. If a perpetual license is not available, a new single-use .prvc license file can be obtained through our Subscription Packages.

To import and migrate pre-2020 Update 1 MIKE URBAN models, MIKE URBAN 2020 Update 1 must be installed on the same PC as MIKE+.

The installations tested here are in chronological order: first MIKE URBAN 2016 SP3, MIKE URBAN 2020 update 1 and MIKE+ 2025 update 1.

Installation Test Results Summary

The table below summarises the outcome of the functionality tests conducted during the migration workflow and individual product use within our internal environment.

Note: Empty cells indicate functionalities that do not apply to that specific version or were not required during testing (e.g., “Import from MU” only applies in MIKE+ during migration).

Possible Known Issue: Export to ArcGIS Error (MIKE URBAN 2016)
