Question
ESRI has announced the retirement plan for ArcMap. Is this going to affect the usage of MIKE URBAN?
Answer
ESRI has announced the retirement plan of ArcMap but this period has been extended for some industrial utilities including DHI.
- According to our agreement, existing clients who purchased a perpetual ArcMap license through DHI can continue to use it until 01-01-2028 with limited support
- DHI will stop providing ArcMap license along with new purchases of MIKE+ after release of MIKE+ 2026 (due out January, 2026)
- The limited support is only provided for the purpose of migrating MIKE URBAN models into MIKE+
- For clients, who require technical assistance on their model migration may be invoiced with an hourly fee

#01 What is ArcMap
ArcMap is one of the central applications used in ArcGIS Desktop. It is used to perform a wide range of common GIS tasks as well as specialized, user-specific tasks. The application and its license check are embedded in MIKE URBAN. MIKE URBAN as a legacy product, is officially decommissioned with only limited support when migrating to MIKE+.
#02 Our agreement with ESRI
DHI headquarters holds a Gold Partnership with Esri and a sales authorization of ArcGIS Pro application on MIKE+. It is a global agreement and in this reseller agreement, we distribute licenses for ArcGIS desktop (ArcMap due in release 2026), ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online. Other DHI offices may have different types of agreements or cooperation with their local Esri provider on advisory/development projects.
Disclaimer:
MIKE URBAN is officially no longer supported or maintained, and compatibility with newer operating systems cannot be guaranteed. Running legacy products in modern environments can be complex, and as a result, we cannot ensure reliable performance on all systems. Factors such as your operating system version, hardware configuration, and third-party software, may impact functionality. The information provided in this article is based solely on tests conducted in our internal environment and may not reflect performance on other setups. For continued technical support and long-term reliability, we strongly recommend migrating to the latest version of MIKE+ as soon as possible.
