Question
Is it possible to import or connect 3rd party models to MIKE software. Which ones are compatible?

Answer
Importing MIKE or non-MIKE models to MIKE+ or connecting 3rd party models to MIKE OPERATIONS may sometimes be required by users in order to convert old 3rd party models to MIKE+ latest release and subsequently run various scenarios or to create powerful Decision Support Systems that can then be used for real-time forecasting purposes.

This article is intended to inform users on which import/connection operations are currently possible or not for various 3rd party models.

Description
MIKE+ offers options for importing and exporting different MIKE and non-MIKE model databases and setups into/out of a MIKE+ project database, including:

  • EPANET water distribution model data (*.inp file)
  • SWMM urban storm drainage and wastewater collection networks (*.inp file)

For more information you may check the MIKE+ User Guide for Predefined Import and Export Routines

MIKE OPERATIONS is an online modelling framework designed to support the data transformation process for water forecasting and operational control applications related to river basins, cities or marine environments. It also allows the user to create an adapter for a 3rd party model, to be used within the MIKE OPERATIONS Platform.

Fig. 1 shows a table of the main 3rd party MIKE+ importer tools and already (or to be) developed MIKE OPERATIONS Adapters:

*The Github converter tool is provided on an ‘as-is’ basis and is not part of the official MIKE Powered by DHI software suite.
Furthermore, it is not supported or quality checked by DHI (no Service and Maintenance Agreement applied).

** An adapter refers to specialized software interface that is able to read/edit another model’s inputs and parameters,
run that model through MIKE OPERATIONS and read/export model results.

Conclusion
This article provides information on 3rd party models and the existing possibilities for importing to MIKE+ or connecting them to MIKE OPERATIONS software. Should you require more information on conversions/connections with the above or other 3rd party modelling software do not hesitate to submit a special request. We cannot guarantee we will address them but at least they will be taken into consideration in our future development plans.
