Hi Ikka,
The major difference is FM (Flexible mesh) solves the equations in
Selection of preferred modelling software based on:
[li]Model calibration - FM gives a slightly better calibration as it resolves all features
Run times - Rectilinear usually uses a single core may take more time than FM which are capable of using all the processing capacity
Representation of complex features - rectilinear may miss some complex feature especially when the model is having estuaries/channels
Wetting and drying of intertidal mudflats - better resolved in FM
Resolution - unlike FM, Rectilinear are fixed cell size. In order to increase or reduce the resolution you need to create nested bathymetry and which got risk of improper boundary transfers, which can be avoided in FM [/li]
[li][/li]
Hope this helps

Hi Praveen,
There is an In-built tool to do this right away.. Use Mike Zero Toolbox --> Concatenation -->TxConc , then select your Dfs2/Dfs0/Dfs1/Dfs3/Dfsu files and then you can select your temporal subset to combine.
Hope this will help you.

Dear Cathy,
Those two options are based on the way you operate the gates. Full water column can be used when you assume the gate is completely open/lifted.
There are two cases where you use subset of column,
[li]when you use a sluice gate or half opened gate [/li]
[li]while using hanging weirs as a blocking gate [/li]

Dear Vladimir,
I use dredge track for all my MT simulations for dredge plume studies. As mentioned earlier, you need to create a dfs0 file with X,Y, dredge rate, Spill %.. How the rate and % are calculated is based on the sediment sieve information and dredger operational data.
If you can view the image below, I used a dredger track data (track indicated in index) where dredger operates for 18hrs with 6hrs downtime. and dredge rate of dredger is 15% sediment and 85% water.. and as a worst case scenario, I considered 20% spill to the open water to simulate.
One more import thing to do is, Use 2 layers in the MT simulation else you will get weird results. As per DHI's suggestion I use 2 layers, top soft mud layer indicating deposited sediment and hard bottom layer. I usually give thickness of top layer as 2m, enough for 7day dredge time.

Happy dredging .. :)

Dear Yasinabd,
I don't think there is any tool to convert dfs2 to dfsu, But you can use your .dfs2 file as a scatter data and generate the .dfsu file in Mesh generator.

Dear Vicky,
In my experience, I use fully spectral formulation with Quasi-stationary mode to simulate Extreme events for the design of Structures. This would take less time but includes all the parameters.
For storm surges, I use Fully Spectral formulation with In-stationary formulation with a lowest possible mesh resolution to reduce the time.
While for sediment transport and couple models, I use Direction decouples with in stationary mode to reduce the time. Its again the importance of the waves in the region. I use mode in rare cases.
Based on what you are ought to achieve, you should choose the process.
Hi Praveen,
Further to Ricardo's points, you need to consider spending some extra time generating the mesh bathymetry for the model. For your above mentioned domain nos of nodes/elements seem high.
[li]Create you mesh in the multiples of 3 e.g. from boundary to area of interest 3000m^2, 1000m^2, 300m^2, 100m^2,30m^2 resolution mesh. [/li]
[li]Check you land boundary file to eliminate closely grouped nodes/vertices. Avoid clusters of vertices especially in areas which are of least importance for your study.
[/li][li]Load and Analyse the mesh after exporting the interpolated mesh based on "Smallest time step based on the water depth" and edit the troubling nodes.(this alone would save up-to min 15% of simulation time)
[/li]
Hope these tips will be helpful to you.
Best regards,

I'm trying to use MIKE DHI Matlab toolbox 2014 on MATLAB 2013a, to process MIKE 2012 output files. While executing the example scripts I'm getting the following error:
>> read_dfs0
Error using read_dfs0 (line 17)
Message: The type initializer for
'DHI.Generic.MikeZero.DFS.DfsDLLAccess' threw an exception.
Source: DHI.Generic.MikeZero.DFS
HelpLink:
Further I've tried to locate the DLL file and linked with the program, but the error continues. I copied assembly files (DHI.Generic.MikeZero.DFS.dll, DHI.Generic.MikeZero.EUM.dll ) from .NET folder to ../2012/bin folder and then built the "MatlabDfsUtil.2012.dll" file using "MatlabDfsUtilBuild.bat" linking the .DFS and .EUM dll files. Still the error continues.
Please help me out of this.
Thanks in Advance
