Hi,
how do I simulate a plug flow reactor for a tracer test? is there a PFR block in West 2016? or I can just use many CSTR reactors in series to simulate a PFR reactor.

Thanks
Iacopo

Hi Iacopo,
no: there's no specific block / model for plug-flow.
One would normally mimic the plug-flow behaviour by using tanks in series.
Please take a look at the "Non-ideal Mixing: Tracer Test" video here: https://dhiwestweb.wordpress.com/videos/

Hello,

1 - Could you give please give me a reference in how to plan a tracer test?

2 - Which substance/parameter can I/should I use as tracer?

Thank you,
Kind regards,

The video should answer your questions, I guess.
Basically you need to use a soluble, non-reactive substance (e.g. S_I) to model your tracer.

In the tracer test experiment, is there any relation between the volume of the 5 equalization tanks and the volume of the real activated sludge reactor?
Thank you

The sum of the N 'virtual' tanks must equal the actual volume of the tank

Hello,  So regarding the question: How can we model an ideal plug flow reactor in WEST (license WEST2024)?  The answer for this updated version remains: ---------------------------------------- "Hi Iacopo, no: there's no specific block / model for plug-flow. One would normally mimic the plug-flow behaviour by using tanks in series. Please take a look at the "Non-ideal Mixing: Tracer Test" video here: https://dhiwestweb.wordpress.com/videos/" ---------------------------------------- Since I think that we colud change to different mixing conditions like plug flow but just with WESTforDesign license.  Thank you in advance for your answer!
