• motion in quadratic elements

when I use rectangular elements in the domain, I get this mostly element-directed motion. It seems unnatural.
If so, why should these kinds of elements be used? in what cases does it give natural flow motion?

  • Re: MIKE 3fm- Brine source modeling

    Thank you Stefan,
no, I couldn't get rid of the upward stream but eventually, it didn't affect much on the model.

I will try your Idea for using several point sources over an area
  • Re: brine croses boundary

    Dear Stefan,
    I guess I'm using version 2011.
The boundary condition of the temperature/salinity model is zero gradients.
Boundary condition of hydrodynamic is specified level (zero)
  • brine croses boundary

Hello nice people. can somebody help me understand why when brine crosses the boundary I get a return flow with extra salinity?
attached a photo. and how do I prevent it from happening?
    Thank you all.
  • MIKE 3fm- Brine source modeling

I want to model a source of brine that released from half a meter above the ground. as I do that and run a model, I get a salinity stream up to the surface (besides the stratified halocline in the bed) I tried to use all options to set it ( layer number, distance above ed, distance below surface)
does anybody know why does it happen? (the salinity of the source is of course higher than the rest of the domain)

another question is if is there a way to set the source to discharge from an area and not from a point?

    thank you !!
