  • Sensivity to top boundary position on a 2D Vertical seawater intrusion model

    Hello everybody,

I am a new user of FEFlow and I am trying to model a simple case of Seawater intrusion in a coastal aquifer in a 2D Vertical plane in order to compare it with Sharp Interface analytical solutions. I run Feflow with transient flow/transient transport untill it reached steady state with saturated conditions. I have  homogeneous and isotropic conditions. My initials conditions are concentration 0 everywhere and initial head at the sea level.
My domain consist of a sloping aquifer and a vertical cliff at the sea (flat top ). I have a recharge prescribed on the top boundary, no inflow from the lanside and a seawater head conditions at the sea. I observe on many simulations, that the height of the cliff plays a role concerning the evaluation of the hydraulic head at the lanside (That leads to different penetrations of the seawater). I believe that the head at the landside should not vary with the position of the top boundary.  I do not have any data or observations points. Do you have any explanations for that behavior or any others advices for my simulations?

    Thank you for your help,

    Fabien
