Question
Why is my license module 'm21fmhd' used in a MIKE+ simulation?

Answer
This is only concerning clients having both license modules, e.g. 'm21fmhd' and 'mflood_m21fmhd' as the same license type in the license pool. You can log into the DHI Internet License Portal to check the license types.

01 - What is m21fmhd module?
m21fmhd is part of the MIKE 21 Flow Model (MIKE 21 FMHD).

This module simulates water level and flows in response to a variety of forcing (from winds over tides to waves), structures (from simple weirs to tidal turbines) and many innovation features (from complex infrastructure calculations to flow calculation for mud and oil).

02 - What is mflood_m21fmhd module?
mflood_m21fmhd is part of the MIKE+ 2D overland module.

MIKE+ 2D overland uses the same FM engine for unsteady hydrodynamics simulations of 2D overland flow for simple culverts and weirs. Compared with m21fmhd with all the features, mflood_m21fmhd comes with reduced feature focusing on inland flooding. The pricing is also different for both modules.

Conclusion
When both licenses are on the same license type in the license pool, the license system will take mflood_m21fmhd as the primary choice in MIKE+. But once all the mflood_m21fmhd licenses are occupied, the system will take m21fmhd as a secondary choice.

If you prefer to keep the m21fmhd for MIKE Zero user only, your company admin can assign a specific module to a user through the Internet license portal.

Another option is to check out the MIKE 21 modules to ensure the usage for a specific user or project. There are many features to play around with until you find the best solution for your organization.
