I want some clarity in steady state and transient pathline computations. When selecting pathline computations, there are two options, one for a steady state calculation and the other is a transient pathline computation. The transient pathline computation I'm assuming to be the actual path the particles took while the steady state pathline computation is the path that at that point in time would have taken if these conditions at that time were held constant. Can I get some clarity on this as I can't find much on this in the help file.

I think you have already perfectly understood the principle. If the steady-state option is chosen, the velocity field is assumed to be constant in time. The resulting tracks are the streamlines.
If the transient option is chosen, the velocity is regarded to be a function of the time. The resulting tracks are the pathlines.
For a steady-state model, streamlines and pathlines are identical.
