I'm a new user so forgive me if I ask a simple question.

I can't figure out how to import a large number of observation points and have them applied to the right slice based on the elevation of the measurement point.  My model currently has five layers and I have over 200 observation points throughout the domain.  I plan to increase the number of layers later to 10.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok I figured it out. I'm replying here to help out other users, since I find the documentation very sparse.

Create a .dat file with x,y,z,head of your observed data.  Run your simulation, then create a scatter plot. Load in your observation.dat file when prompted. If you hover the mouse point over a datapoint, you'll see that FeFlow shows the slice number as well as the observed and calculated heads.

Dan, I'm finding difficulties to get a scatter plot. After reading your reply I think the main problem is the form of the .dat file. How should I organize it since I have to input time (d) information too? You said x,y,z and head. So z would be the filter elevation of the well?

Thanks!

I am just doing steady state so have not introduced time yet, will in the future.  My .dat file is just that, xyzHead, where z is the screened interval, I used the middle of the screen, and head is the total head measured in that piezometer.

Yes of course. Thank you any way Dan! And If anybody knows how to make a scatter plot for a transient simulation, please help me.

For transient simulations, you can do scatter plots either for one time step and different locations (in the same way as for steady-state models), or for one location and different time stages. For the latter, right-click into the diagram, select 'properties', load a reference curve for the observation point you want to do the scatter plot for and click the scatter plot button.

Thanks Peter. Can I see the name of the observation point in the scatter plot or just the coordinate? I could not figure how to input the point name or number in the plot...

You can jsut see the coordinate.

Goodmorning,
i try to import the observation points using point shapefiles which contains X,Y,heads. I have two point shp one for layer 1 and one for layer two. How could i import them?

Thanks!

Irene
